As the 20 millionth blog, The Craving Conn(oisseur) has arrived. And as the first official blog post, I just wanted to let everyone know I am “Doing my own thing”. Not hopping on a bandwagon just to be cool or join in on the social experiment, but rather a way to share my passions with family, friends, and anyone else who might discover this url. In this first post, I hope to give you a little glimpse as to why I am writing the blog and what it is about. And so it begins…
The Craving Conn(oisseur) is a blog about food and travel. About a young man and his adventures in the kitchen and in the world. I crave experimenting with fresh foods in the kitchen, the challenges and joys of travel, and the pleasures of the new and unknown. I am by no means a connoisseur, as the only thing I am an expert at is being myself. However, I possess the characteristics one needs to be a connoisseur: I have a strong appreciation for and want to know as much as possible about a subject (or two). These two subjects happen to be food and travel.
But wait, how is that different? The likely response upon first hearing of the subject matter will be, “O No! Yet another blog about food or travel or worse, the repulsive conglomeration of the two.” It may sound pretty bandwagonish to most people, but it is a blog about my passions: food and travel. Food, because as M. F. K. Fisher simply states it, “Like most other humans, I am hungry.” Travel because my spirit which can't sit still, wants to see new things, and strongly desires to impact the lives of others (something I cannot do from my living room sofa so easily). So logically, I have created a blog about them both.
This still doesn’t explain how I plan to be different. Well, that’s just the point, I am not planning, nor am I going to. I will accept the adventures that God throws my way, live in he here and now (not the past or future), and talk to people (life is all about people). Living in such a way, I think I will have writing material at the end of the day. I tend to eat Every day and at the very least travel (walk) to the local market (Trader Joes). Thus at the end of a relaxing/ frustrating/ adventurous/ or plain boring day, I will have something to blog about (I just hope it's a tad interesting).
So this little experiment and adventure is a chance for me to explore the diverse world of cooking and traveling. And then share a few of these adventures with you all. Maybe inspiring you to try a new recipe or go travel to a bizarre place. I am embracing the adventures God places before me and ready, maybe... So let's see where this blog take you and I and what memories can be shared along the way.
The Craving Conn
P.S.: Connoisseur is much too hard of a word to spell (as I found out spelling it 6 different ways as I wrote the post). This, coupled with the fact that I am only half a connoisseur, has led me to shorten the name to: The Craving Conn. And when I'm feeling extra witty or just figure out how to spell, it will be The Craving Connoisseur.
