You might be wondering where I have been all this summer? Yes, I had plans to cook through Jerusalem a Cookbook and to blog quite a bit, but I got too busy (never heard that one I bet). I let the trivial things of this world get in the way and take away from my blog time and many other things I should have done. Let us forget about the past and look at the present and future.
In that department I have fantastic news! In one week, the 15th of September I am flying out of the United States to move to Cartagena, Spain, for 10 months and teach English as an Auxiliar de Conversacion. You can find out the basics of the Auxiliar program on one of my favorite blogs, Young Adventures. I am super excited for this next step in my life, and everything has just been falling into place over these past few weeks, as the Lord has been showing me that Spain is where I need to be going.
So the plan is to leave from Albuquerque New Mexico, fly to San Francisco, then to Norway, and finally arrive in Helsinki, Finland after 24 hours of travel. All so I can spend a few days with my best friend, Tuomas, and his family. After a few days I will then fly to Murcia, Spain, to take a train (or bus) to Cartagena, where I will hopefully find an apartment and place to settle down for the next 10 months. If I find one or not, I will then leave on the 25th to fly to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, (the opposite side of the country) to attend the wedding of some really good friends. Then the 29th back to Cartagena to begin my position, teaching a language I know so well (English) to the Niños of Spain.
What a whirlwind it will be, but worth it as I will be visiting and travelling with friends. Like I have said before, life is all about people. I plan to really live by that philosophy over the coming months, slowing down and taking the time for others. To build new relationships and impact the lives of the kids I work with is my goal. I am moving to the land of manana, knowing three things: 1) My God is with me and will never leave me, 2) I have full support of my family, and 3) It is going to be a little bit of adventure.
I have returned with a new Macbook Air and a renewed enthusiasm to write. I plan to continue at least once a week, keeping all of you updated on my travels, the schools I will teach in, the foods I get to try, and of course the people I talk to.
Until next time,
The Craving Connoisseur
